  • For every Canadian RN aged 35yrs or less,there is 1.9 RNs aged 50 yrs or greater!
     
  • Only 2.7% (38) of PEI RNs are male.
     
  • 62% of RNs working on PEI are diploma graduates
    36% have a Bachelors Degree
    2% have a Masters or Doctorate Degree
     
  • Presently, we have only 3 recognized Nurse Practitioners (Souris, Hunter River and Charlottetown). 
     
  • 51.1% of PEI RNs hold full time positions
    38.2% of PEI RNs hold part time positions
    10.7% work casually (many of these are our retired nurses)
     
  • There are 252,948 Registered Nurses employed in Canada.
     
  • There are 1428 Registered Nurses on PEI.
     
  • All Registered Nurses must be registered with the Association of Registered Nurses of PEI (ARNPEI).
     
  • PEINU represents more than 1100 Registered Nurses that are employed within the public sector (government operated facilities).
     
  • 40% of PEI RNs are over the age of 50yrs.  Of these, 25% are over 55yrs, 9% are over 60yrs.
     
  • 3.5% (50 Nurses) are over the age of 65 yrs!
     
  • Average age of RN working on PEI is 45.8 yrs.
     
  • Average age of RN working- in the hospital sector is 43.4 yrs
    - in the community sector is 46.4 yrs
    - in nursing homes/LTC sector is 48 yrs
