Kieran Maxwell – Bio
Kieran Maxwell (she/her) is the Senior Manager of Member Education and Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression at the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA). A Registered Nurse and Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), Kieran brings a unique blend of clinical, educational, and leadership experience to her role.
Since joining ONA in 2018, Kieran has served as a Servicing Labour Relations Officer and later as an Educating Labour Relations Officer, supporting nurses and health-care professionals across the province. Prior to her work with ONA, she was a Public Health Nurse with York Region Public Health and held several union leadership positions, including Bargaining Unit President.
Kieran’s clinical background includes extensive experience as a Mental Health Nurse at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, where she worked with both Dual Diagnosis and Adolescent populations.
In addition to her leadership at ONA, Kieran has been invited to present to nursing unions across Canada on topics including advocacy, burnout, and navigating difficult conversations. Most recently, she presented to the New Brunswick Nurses Union on incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and anti-racism lenses into union work. She also facilitated the Racialized Workers Caucus on equity and the effects of marginalization in health care at the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions’ Biennial Convention in 2025.
