Every day, Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, and Nurse Practitioners show up for Islanders. They care for us, our families, and our communities.
But now, they have been working without a Collective Agreement since April 1, 2025, and after 32 days of collective bargaining with no meaningful counterproposals, the PEI Nurses’ Union felt they had no choice but to walk away from the bargaining table.
The PEI Government and Health PEI have spent a reported $40.6 million dollars on private, for-profit agency nurses in 2025-26. This increased reliance on the privatization not only costs the taxpayer more per nurse, it also adds strain on our public nursing workforce, causing our public nurses to feel taken for granted in the system.
We need to tell our government representatives that our nurses deserve an offer for a robust and competitive collective agreement that will help recruit new nurses to the province, and most importantly retain the nurses we already have in our public healthcare system.
