Commentary: Nova Scotia government blamed for nursing shortage

The 46-year-old Fredericton nurse said the shortage of nurses across Canada is the major issue at the conference, adding that they are all tired of excuses and plans. Nurses want action.

“There’s times when I will meet girls outside the unit and we will hold hands, take a deep breath and walk in the unit. When we leave, we stand at the elevator and cry and we don’t even look at each other. It is bad. A lot of times, nurses are so overworked because the ratios are so bad that there’s no bathroom breaks and there are no meal breaks.’’
