PEI Nurses Launch Public Awareness Campaign Ahead of Negotiations
Charlottetown, PEI – On June 16, 2025, the Prince Edward Island Nurses’ Union is proud to launch a new public awareness campaign: “Nurses Are Your Lifeline: Treat Them Like Your Life Depends On It.” This initiative aims to highlight the dedication, humanity, challenges, and personal sacrifices nurses make every day—especially as we approach critical negotiations.
“This campaign is crucial as negotiations begin for RNs and NPs in the public sector,” stated Barbara Brookins, President of the PEI Nurses’ Union. “Our negotiation committee (which includes frontline nurses) will present priorities including competitive wage increases, safe staffing, and improved access to time off. These are essential improvements needed to stabilize our workforce and ensure quality patient care.”
The campaign will showcase real stories from nurses across PEI, inviting the public to visit peinu.com/negotiations to understand the current realities of nursing.
“This isn’t just about wages or hours,” emphasized Brookins. “It’s about respect and recognizing nurses as the backbone of our healthcare system. As negotiations progress, we urge Islanders to join us in showing appreciation and support for those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.”
The PEI Nurses’ Union encourages Islanders to stand with nurses by learning more about the issues at hand and sharing their support. Together, we can ensure nurses receive the respect, support, and working conditions they deserve.
