Election for Vice President: October 29th 2026
PEINU will be holding a provincial election for the role of Vice President on October 29th 2026. We are currently accepting expressions of interest and nominations in the form below until Sept 29th 2026.
This is a provincially-elected role, added to our governance structure through the Constitutional Amendments approved by member vote at our 2026 AGM in April. To learn more please visit the page explaining our Governance Structure.
Criteria:
To be a candidate in a PEINU Provincial Election, a nominee must:
- Be an Active Member in Good Standing with the Union.
- A VP employed as a Temporary or Casual Employee in the bargaining unit is expected to work a minimum of 350 hours over a 12-month period, which may be averaged on a quarterly basis at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
- Cannot hold a permanent excluded (management) or non-bargaining unit position.
- Attended a PEINU AGM in the last two (2) years.
- At least one (1) of the following:
- Participated in your Local as a member of the Executive, a Union Committee, or as a Worksite Representative,
- Participated in the Provincial Union as a member of the Provincial Council or Executive Council; or
- Attended a Union Labour School or CFNU Biennial Convention in the last five (5) years.
Note: In order to carry out the objectives of the Union, the Union must ensure the highest degree of Member and Public confidence in the integrity of the organization and its personnel. In the event a Nominee becomes the subject of a formal investigation, formal complaint, or disciplinary action by CRNMPEI, or an investigation that may result in discipline, paid or unpaid suspension, or other disciplinary action by the Employer prior to the close of the elections, the individual’s nomination shall be considered invalid and shall be removed from the slate of candidates in the election. Members who are elected to an Office of the Union or a Local in violation of this policy shall be removed from Office.
Position Description:
Under our new governance structure, the office of the PEINU Vice President’s role is to act as Chair of the Executive Committee and support the President. The Vice President is expected to be engaged as both a leader and member of the Union. It is important that the Vice President is visible to other members, within their workplaces, at union events/activities, and other related events/activities. Their term of office is three (3) years.
Other responsibilities include:
- Act as a signing officer of the Union.
- Be responsible to assume some or all of the duties of the President during an extended period of absence and/or in accordance with relevant Union policies.
- Attend all Provincial Council (at least 4 times per year) and the Executive Committee Meetings (Up to 3 per year) including the Annual General Meeting in the spring.
- Be a voting member of the Executive Committee and act as Committee Chair.
The Executive Committee meets at least (3) three times per year and is responsible for the oversight and management of the affairs and activities of the Union, in accordance with the Constitution, Bylaws and Policies of the Union. The Executive Committee is responsible to review and amend the Provincial Policy Manual of the Union on an annual basis.
