
PEINU President Barbara Brookins and other Union representatives recently met with Federal minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos, provincial MOH Ernie Hudson, MP Robert Morrissey, MP Sean Casey, MP Heath MacDonald, VP PEINU Joanne Chisholm, Board member Kim Sears, UPSE President Karen Jackson.
The purpose of the meeting was to address the nursing crisis that is happening across the country. Issues included: staffing shortages, retention, returning back to nursing, recruitment, and respect of nurses. There was discussion around how to resolve these issues as well as the the risks and the impact on the health care system with privatization. The federal government needs to ensure that the publicly funded health system is publicly delivered and promotes universal access.
