Summer Staffing in 24/7 Bed-Based Care Operations
PEINU and Health PEI have negotiated an agreement that is intended to minimize the impact of ongoing, significant staffing shortages in 24/7 bed-based care operations from June 1 to September 15.
A copy of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and the June 13th Letter to Health PEI Nurse Leaders are available below.
The highlights from the MOA include incentives for:
- Full-Time Permanent RNs to receive pay for hours worked at the Double Time Rate (2x) if they choose to defer (or were denied leave for) up to one (1) week of their summer vacation
- Permanent Part-Time RNs to pick-up vacant shifts at the Overtime Rate (1.5x)
- Casual Employees to pick-up vacant shifts at the Overtime Rate (1.5x) if they commit to working Replacement Lines of 50% or greater during the summer vacation period
We realize that these incentives will not solve the staffing crisis. We hope that it will help to alleviate some of the pressure by allowing RNs who need and want to take vacation greater opportunities to do so and improve compensation for members who continue to go above and beyond.
